2nd ANNUAL PINE WOOD DERBY
NORTHWEST DETACHMENT 042
WINS AGAIN

The two Litchfield County
Detachments faced of for their 2nd Annual Pine Wood Derby, sponsored
by Cub Scout Pack 22 of Canaan, Ct. The driver for the Torrington Memorial Detachment
was Duanne Knowles, the driver for the Northwest Detachment was Scott Salmon.
As they are waiting for the flag to drop both drivers are riving up their
engines to burn out the last bit of carbon. The heat from the engines has
distorted the view of the face of the flag man, this is for real, the flag
drops, their OFFÉ Northwest racer under the sly hands
of Scott Salmon a new comer on the
racing circuit managed to edge the
Torrington Memorial racer driven by Duanne Knowles by less than a half inch. BACK
TO REALITY.

and Auxiliary Liaison Officer, Dept. of Ct. Bill Gordon join convoy leader,
Dept of Ct., Commandant Richard Wearne and his vehicle with his posse on board
for a little road trip to some where in the vicinity of Quincy Mass. We did not
receive much information that we needed to assist the department of MA. Maybe it is coming in a surprise
package, will fill you in at the meeting on Tuesday, March 14th. All
was not lost, we did have a couple of great meat ball & Sausage grinders
with company and conversation.

NORTHWEST DET. SOS BREAKFAST
PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
The SOS Breakfast was a big success and there were Marine Corps League members from all over the State that came for the food and social gathering. As the people thinned out we held and awards ceremony that was long over due. It was from our 1st Annual Pine Wood Derby. As Torrington Memorial presented Northwest Detachment a cooler of beer as a side bet that they had on the results of their first Derby race in 2005. Nick Gandolfo on the right from Northwest presents and wipes the tears way on the face of Duanne Knowles of Torrington Memorial with the official crying towel. As Duanne Knowles walked away he beckoned for the members of Torrington Memorial to follow him and get away from the cooler before Northwest opened it. OH! OH! Bomb Scare. Northwest is backing away from the cooler as they send in their Commandant Brian Richardson to check for wires. I guess Commandants in the Northwest Detachment are expendable.

Ray Carrier makes
presentation to his lovely wife Elaine, with the following words. ÒI just
picked up this skill saw at the raffle for you honey, now you can build that
deck that we have always
wanted.Ó
